books: self-publishing
Self-publishing should not be confused with vanity or so-called ‘subsidy’ publishing. Vanity publishers charge (and often promise) the earth and deliver very little; true self-publishing on the other hand is invariably cheaper and gives the author complete control over the production and marketing of his or her work.
Many successful, well-known and respected authors have at one time or another self-published, including:
- Rudyard Kipling
- William Blake
- Lord Byron
- Alexander Pope
- D H Lawrence
- Mark Twain
- James Joyce
- Edgar Allen Poe
- Beatrix Potter
- Louise Hay
- T S Eliot
- James Redfield
- Horace Walpole
- Virginia Woolf
