cityscape books: self-publishing

Self-publishing should not be confused with vanity or so-called subsidy publishing. Vanity publishers charge (and often promise) the earth and deliver very little. True self-publishing on the other hand is invariably cheaper and gives you the author complete control over the production and marketing of your work. It can take a lot of time and energy but the rewards can be very satisfying.

Many successful, well-known and respected authors have at one time or another self-published, including:

  • Rudyard Kipling
  • William Blake
  • Lord Byron
  • Alexander Pope
  • D H Lawrence
  • Mark Twain
  • James Joyce
  • Edgar Allen Poe
  • Beatrix Potter
  • Louise Hay
  • T S Eliot
  • James Redfield
  • Horace Walpole
  • Virginia Woolf
