books: self-publishing
Self-publishing should not be confused with vanity or so-called ‘subsidy’ publishing. Vanity publishers charge (and often promise) the earth and deliver very little; true self-publishing, on the other hand, is invariably cheaper and gives the author complete control over the production and marketing of his or her work.
Many successful, well-known and respected authors have at one time or another self-published, including:
Rudyard
Kipling
William
Blake
Lord
Byron
Alexander
Pope
D H
Lawrence
Mark
Twain
James
Joyce
Edgar
Allen Poe
Beatrix
Potter
Louise
Hay
T S
Eliot
James
Redfield
Horace
Walpole
Virginia
Woolf
